The Humane Society was founded in 1971 and has been serving the Crawford County
community for almost 50 years. We are a private nonprofit organization that is totally self
funded by a weekly bingo game, adoptions, fundraisers, memorials and bequests. In 1997, the
shelter as you know it today, was built with help from the community and corporate sponsors.
Since the new building opened the Humane Society has helped an average 2000 animals a year.
Not only do we aid abandoned, abused, and neglected pets but we also help people when they
are no longer able to keep their pets and stray pets that are brought to us by the Crawford
County Dogs Wardens office and other caring individuals. We lend our services to law
enforcement agencies, municipal fire departments and volunteer are departments when pets
and exotic animals need to be removed from homes. Our organization will also step in, when
necessary, to aid livestock in need.
The Humane Society team works hard to keep the shelter a clean inviting environment that is
comfortable for adoptions as well as surrenders. We realize that by helping people with their
pet needs we can make our community a brighter place one adoption at a time.
OUR MISSION STATEMENT
The Humane Society serving Crawford County is a non-profit organization whose function and goal is to improve animal welfare and provide protection for all animals. An organization of dedicated volunteers, we assume the responsibility to prevent cruelty and neglect to the animals of Crawford County and to curb the over population of cats and dogs through education and action!
